Dr. Marcella Siqueira Cassiano

Marcella Cassiano has been an Assistant Professor in Criminal Justice at the University of Winnipeg since 2023. She did her bachelor’s degree in Brazil (Social Sciences), master’s in China (Shandong University, Sociology), and PhD in Canada (University of Alberta, Sociology). Marcella’s research and scholarship focus on surveillance and governance, prison policies, and the occupational health and wellness of public safety professionals.  Marcella’s current project portfolio includes 4 projects: She is the principal investigator in two projects about the health and wellness of 911 operators in Alberta and Manitoba, which are funded by the Alberta Government and the Manitoba Medical Service Foundation. Marcella also leads a SSHRC Insight Development Grant project on Canada’s prisoner segregation policy and co-leads a project on the health and wellness of correctional professionals in the United States.
